Flexible photovoltaic (PV) supports refer to prestressed structural systems formed primarily with cables as the main load-bearing components. The main materials used are steel and cables. Based on structural forms, they can be classified into the following two categories:
- Flexible systems such as single-layer cable-suspended structures primarily composed of flexible cables.
- Semi-rigid systems such as cable-truss structures and beam-string structures, which combine rigid components with flexible cables.
Compared to traditional PV supports, flexible PV supports offer better crack resistance, require less steel, have lower weight-bearing demands, are more cost-effective, place fewer demands on site foundations, and are highly pre-assembled, significantly shortening the construction period. At the same time, their large span and flexible operation enable maximum land space utilization, ensuring good ventilation, high power generation efficiency, and strong wind resistance.
Flexible PV supports can reduce construction costs to some extent on complex terrains. They are applicable in various large-span topographies such as agricultural-photovoltaic互补 (agrivoltaics), fishery-photovoltaic互补 (aquavoltaics), mountainous PV installations, and sewage treatment plants, without affecting crop cultivation or fish farming.
